Situated in the Tyrol region of western Austria, Innsbruck is an efficient and friendly small airport that handles the thousands of tourists that annually pass through its gates en route to the delights of the magnificient region of mountains and meadows both for the winter ski-ing and the summer mountain trekking as well as the more leisurely pursuits available throughout the towns and cities that are dotted around within a short drive. Innsbruck itself is a good starting point. As the capital of the region, perched among the Tyrolean Alps, the city is an interesting and pretty place to spend some time. Its Hofburg palace and the Hofkirche, a Renaissance-style church of the 16th-century are particularly fine. Innsbruck a number of good museums including the Ferdinandeum which are well worth a visit. Shopping trips can be rewarding. Everything from the quaint – leiderhausen and William Tell type souvenirs for example, - to sophisticated clothing stores and good antique and bric a brac shops. If you are in the market for outdoor sports wear and ski equipment, this is the place for you.
There are many excellent restaurants and bars in the city. Tyrolean cuisine is very special and the beers of the region are exceptional.
