The airport is correctly titled the Salzburg Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart Airport. It is ideally situated as an arrival point for travellers bound for Austria and, due to its close proximity with the border, Germany. It is friendly and reflects typical Germanic efficiency. The facilities at the airport are of an excellent standard. The terminal is equipped with a Bank, Bureau de Change and ATM facilities. There are also first aid stations, baby changing rooms, a children' play area, plentiful disabled access and facilities (including a specially equipped lift) and a well presented business centre.

Shops include the usual tax free store as well as a range of boutiques and gift shops selling fashion accessories, jewellery, lingerie, perfumes and cosmetics, The terminal has a newsagent and tobacconist, a travel agency and a friendly help desk for tourist where the staff speak good English. A range of restaurants, bars and cafes provide an excellent choice for the diner. The restaurants Amadeus and Panorama Market Place are recommended as is the Ikarus restaurant which is situated outside of the main terminal building. The airport provides plenty of parking outside of the main terminal building and within a purpose built multi storey car park linked to the terminal building by a covered walkway. All of the parking spaces are within a 5 minutes' walk from the terminal. In all, approximately 140 short term and over 2000 long term spaces are available.

Events in Salzburg

July to August - The Salzburg Festival. Opera, drama and concerts.

As well as the above famous festival, There are music and visual arts events being held in Salzburg and the region throughout the year. These tend to change annually, so the traveller is advised to check with the Austrian tourist office before departure. One thing is a constant and that is the availability of ‘The Sound of Music' tours and events. If you are a fan and (secretly) most people are, these are not to be missed.

Visiting Salzburg

A short drive and you are surrounded by the breathtaking mountainous scenery of Bavaria and the Tyrol to the southwest. In the winter, you are in the heart of one of the most exciting ski areas of Europe. A short drive will take you to Salzburg, the birth place of Austria's famous son, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart – well they named an airport after him anyway. Salzburg Old City is full of delights. Magnificent architecture, amazing shops and food that will ensure you put on a lot of weight during your visit.

You can work some of this off by exploring the maze of narrow medieval streets that wind there way through this small – mainly pedestrianised - city. Or if you feel like it, take a ride in a horse drawn carriage known as a Fiaker, the drivers are excellent guides.
