Gran Canaria is known as 'the miniature continent', for its variety of climates very hot in the south and humid and fresher in the north. Las Palmas is the major town which is a very historical town with buildings dating back to 1692. Most of the island is made up of its many beaches and woodlands. It is located just 67 miles off the west coast of Africa. Puerto Rico is perhaps the most popular resort and is built into the mountains with two glorious beaches and not forgetting Maspalomas with its massive sand dunes.
