During April the locks on the Nile are closed due to water levels and the best time for a Nile cruise is between October and mid-April when the locks are all open and the heat is not at it most ferocious.

Many tourists take part in escorted tours to some of the most interesting sites such as the ancient city of Thebes which includes the temples at Karnak and Luxor which are within the city of Cairo.
