Car Hire FAQ'S :: Frequently Asked Questions

We often get asked questions before and after a car hire booking and so have collated the most commonly asked questions which we hope will address any questions you may have.

Can I change the dates of my car rental?

- Yes you can change your booking up until 4 hours before arrival.

I am under 25, can I hire a vehicle?

- Yes in some cases it is possible to rent a hire car if you are under 25 but there would be a supplement payable at the time of collection of the vehicle. Please contact our call centre for further information and costs.

I don't have my driving licence. Will the car hire company do a DVLA check on my arrival?

- Yes if the vehicle is being collected within the UK and during normal office hours a check will be made but there will be a charge to pay for this.

Does the price quoted include everything inc. damage excess and taxes?

- In most cases the prices quoted are fully inclusive, however in some cases there may be an additional charge upon arrival, please contact the call centre to confirm if you are in any doubt.

What is my confirmation number?

Your confirmation number always begins with the letter CN followed by 6 numbers.

I am travelling where there may be snow, what is the extra charge for snow chains and tyres?

This varies from rental location to location, so please contact the call centre to confirm.

Does the driver need to have a credit card?

- Yes on collection of your vehicle you will be required to leave your credit card details.

Will the car rental location accept my switch card as the deposit?

- No most locations will not take Switch however there is the odd exception so if this may cause you a problem please contact the call centre to confirm whether your location will accept your switch card.

Can I change the driver?

- Yes the driver details can be changed up to 4 hours before arrival as long as the age requirements meet the hire company's conditions.

What is the insurance on the vehicle?

- The insurance included with your booking includes CDW and Theft Waiver, however there is an excess which applies to each insurance. To lower the waiver on the CDW, you can take our additional insurance or additional insurance at the car rental location on arrival?

Can I upgrade the vehicle?

-Yes, as long as the vehicle you require is available at the time of the requested change. To upgrade your vehicle please contact our call centre.

What happens if my flight is delayed or we arrive late, will the car rental company wait for me?

Yes, as long as you gave us the correct flight number when you booked then the car rental desk will monitor any delayed flights and wait for your arrival. The only location where this is not the case is Nice Airport.

Can the car be dropped off in another country?

Yes in some instances this is possible, please contact the call centre for further information.

If I need to cancel my booking what must I do?

To cancel a booking you will need to fax us on 01582 736 728 or e-mail us on bookings@travelextras.com.

How much is the OOH charge?

- This varies from rental location to location, so please contact the call centre to confirm.
