We have cars available in Strasbourg and all other major locations throughout France including Nice, Paris and Toulouse. Brest On an inlet of the Atlantic Ocean in north west France is the commercial city and port of Brest. In medieval times Brest was a fortress town and in 1596 was where the council who established the United Catholic Church had their meeting place. Situated at the junction of Mukhavets and Western Bug rivers it is close to the Polish border, and until 1795 was regarded as being Polish. As a port it is important as a commercial base and also a naval base. The French Naval Academy is here and the French Engineering College. Unfortunately Brest was quite heavily bombed during the war and there are few historical sites to visit but having been rebuilt there is a modern day image with remnants of the city as it was which add a little mystery. The biggest attraction is Oceanopolis just east of the city centre, a futuristic development with 3 aquariums and 3 D cinemas. There are plenty of bars and bistros, and restaurants to suit every pocket. Good French cuisine and wine sit side by side with a cosmopolitan variety of places to sample food from far and wide. |
