Guide

The airport is located 5 miles northwest of Berlin. With a runway extended by the western powers during the Berlin blockade of the cold war, the airport is run with typical German efficiency and is Berlin's Berlin's main air gateway, dealing with international, domestic and charter traffic. Lufthansa is the principal carrier using Tegel. Although only one of the three airports serving the city - the others being Schönefeld and Tempelhof – it remains a very popular facility as its continual growth in freight and passenger business shows.
Most services concentrated in the Main Hall of the terminal complex and the airport is complete with banking and bureaux de change facilities. It also has ATMs and a post office. Fashion accessories, jewellery, clocks, a travel shop, a stationery shop, sound and image electronics, Children's World, Gourmet Shop, lingerie, fashion, beach wear, perfumes, cosmetics and books, can all be found on site. The general focus is very much ‘user friendly' and the good range of shops and tax free outlets provide excellent opportunities for gift and souvenir buying. The terminal also boasts a chemist and a good sized supermarket for general shopping. Restaurants, bars and cafes are in plentiful supply with the Champagne Bar and the Take Off restaurant being especially recommended. Passengers looking to kill time can also visit the art and exhibition area.
The airport is popular with the local business community – and not just for travel – as Tegel's Conference Centre is an excellent facility

Places to visit in Berlin
First and most obviously, Berlin itself with too many sight and spectacles to list here. Explore as much of both East and West as time allows. ‘Must Visits' include The Checkpoint Charlie Museum telling the history of the Berlin Wall and the poignant stories of those who tried to break through.
Berlin is a vast city with a nightlife that caters for all tastes. Its wide range restaurants are a gourmet's delight with cuisine of every conceivable type readily available. There seems to be a bar on every street corner and you can indulge in a 24 hour party in any of the many clubs for which Berlin is famous. Beer lovers are reminded of the regular German festivals of the ‘amber nectar'. If you prefer a quieter time, drive out of the City and chill out in the beautiful forests and lakes for which the countryside around Berlin is famous.
Another recommended driving tour from Berlin is Potsdam and the Sanssouci Palace
This magnificent eighteenth century Palace built by Frederick the Great is wonderful.
