This vibrant tourist resort is definitely aimed at the younger market. Situated on the west side of Minorca, it is the liveliest destination on the island, attracting countless thousands of young British holiday makers every year. Properly named Sant Antoni de Portmany it is affectionately known as ‘San An’ to its regulars. It lies on a wide bay and is now almost a continuous strip of accommodation blocks, hotels, bars and restaurants. San Antonia itself has only a few small beaches, but a short ferry ride across the bay brings you to the magnificent white sand of Cala Conta, Cala Tardia and Cala Bassa beaches which gently shelve down to the sea.

There are plenty of other activities on offer including go-karting, scuba diving, riding and golf. The resort has a good selection of shops that range from the cheap and cheerful to some very smart and stylish boutiques. There are a number of well stocked supermarkets selling everything for a self catering stay and the traditional markets that stay open well into the night around the port are well worth a visit for the atmosphere and the huge range of merchandise. It is however the clubs that are the main attraction to the majority of the tourists who come here. There is a wide range of internationally famous venues including Eden and Amnesia that are regularly hosted by names such as Fat Boy Slim and Tim Westwood. It is a party place that never sleeps.

Ibiza Airport


This seasonally busy, single terminal, two storey complex is the gateway to Menorca and the tourist resorts that include Ibiza Town and the lively San Antonia. The airport is located about 5 miles from Ibiza and only 10 miles from San Antonia. During the main holiday season between May and October; it witnesses around 90 per cent of its annual 5 million passengers passing through its doors. The airport has the usual facilities of banks, a post office, ATMs and bureaux de change as well as an excellent range of shops and a small but well equipped conference facility. There is also a wide selection of fast food outlets, bars, restaurants and coffee shops. A number of car hire companies are based at the airport, but if you are travelling in high season you are strongly recommended to book your chosen vehicle prior to arrival. Transfer to your final destination from the airport is convenient with taxis and buses available outside of the terminal.

Must See in San Antonia

• Away from the noise and bustle of the resort, towards the centre of the island lies some beautifully unspoilt countryside dotted with traditional villages. Take a hire car and explore the inland area and some of the less developed areas of coastline.
• The village of San Miguel to the north contains some interesting architecture and a complex of caves that are open to the public.
• Ibiza Old Town is well worth a visit to find a peaceful escape from modern hustle in its picturesque cobbled streets with some charming architectural features dating back as far as the 10th century.

• Like many Catholic areas, the island celebrates religious festivals throughout the year. Despite the fact that the region is now focussed on the tourist trade, the Saints Days are still widely observed.
