Bergamo is a situated in Lombardy, northern Italy. It is relatively close to Milan, and its airport is used by budget airlines as a gateway to Milan. The town is to the north-east of Milan, and is also close to Lake Como. Because Bergamo is situated at the foothills of the Alps, it offers fantastic views. The town is split into two halves with an upper and lower town. The older more traditional parts are within the upper town and the newer developments are found near the railway station in the lower (Bergamo Bassa) part of the town.

• The church of Santa Maria Maggiore - Its building commenced in the 12th century. It's a lovely building and neighbours the Duomo (cathedral).
• The Rocca - Which is a walled stronghold and within it is a museum it has an exhibition covering the growth of the town, but also includes some fascinating exhibits which include Garibaldi's red-and-gold slippers).
