Venice consists of of more than a hundred tiny islets which are packed closely together around canals. The city is in a lagoon, protected by the longer island of Venice Lido and is currently sinking. It is home to gondolas and the gondaliers in stripey jerseys. There is of course St Mark's Square plus the city's maze of canals to explore. Both Ryanair and Easyjet run flights to Venice, so getting to Venice has never been so easy.

Must see in Venice

• St Mark's Square - This is by far the most famous sight in Venice, in Italy known as the Piazza San Marco it is full of humans and pidgeons and as such is very lively with beautiful architecture and chic coffee-houses.
• The Accademia - This gallery houses many of the finest fine art collections in Venice. It contains works by Bellini, Canaletto, Piero della Francesca, Veronese, Tintoretto, Titian and many more.
• St Mark's Basilica - Here you can find where the relics of the apostle where housed after being stolen for the city by the early Venetians. There are numerous arts and treasures from the East housed in the basilica amongst an array of coloured marbles and mosaics.
