Mahon City Guide

Mahon is the capital of Menorca, the furthest east and second largest island in the Balearic Islands and part of Spain. Menorca is a paradise for those seeking sandy beaches and nature, providing the ideal holiday location for families and anyone wanting a peaceful and relaxing holiday.

Mahon is a busy port with a long history. It was occupied by the British for some time, and you can see Georgian architecture in many of the buildings.

Wander around the town and you will see many reminders of the past, with ancient and impressive buildings bearing testimony to the years of work and military operations. The Place Esplanada, for example, is the largest square on the island and used to be a military parade ground. Now its historic buildings have been converted to restaurants and cafes, and it is a great place to go for people-watching. A particularly beautiful building is the Military Governor's House, the Gobierno Militar, which was built in the eighteenth century and is still used by the army today.

North of Mahon and overlooking the harbour lies Golden Farm, a mansion where Admiral Lord Nelson stayed in October 1799.

Mahon Airport Guide

The airport is the first port of call for visitors to the island, most of whom are holidaymakers in search of sun and relaxation. The airport has one terminal building, which caters for both international and domestic flights. Departures are on P1 and arrivals on P0.

There is a great range of cafes, bars and restaurants, and lots of shopping to keep you occupied. A duty free shop is complemented by various other shops, selling clothes, cosmetics, toys, sports goods, delicatessen, electronics and music, and there are newsagents too. If you need some money to finance your spree, there are 3 convenient ATMs and a Bureau de Change.

If you need help with further travel plans, there are ten different travel agents on site, and there is an airport help desk and tourist information centre. Disabled people are catered for with ramps and disabled toilets across the airport, plus reserved parking areas in the car park opposite the terminal.
