New Zealand Country Guide

New Zealand is situated in the South Western part of the Pacific Ocean. It comprises of two main islands the North Island and South Island and a few smaller islands. It is famous for its outstanding fauna and flora and its diverse topography.

South Island is the larger of the two islands and boasts 18 mountainous peaks of over 3000 metres. The North island although less mountainous is home to the counties volcanos.

The country generally has a mild climate. In the North it has a sub tropical climate, and in the South a more temporal climate.

Driving in New Zealand

You must be aged 21 or over to rent a car in New Zealand. Once in New Zealand you can legally drive there for up to 12 months if you have either a current driver's licence from your home country or an International Driving Permit (IDP).

You are required to carry your drivers licence with you at all times. If the licence is not in English you must have it translated into English before you arrive in New Zealand.

You will drive on the left-hand side of the road and the speed limit is 100km/h on the open road and 50km/h in urban areas.

Drivers and all passengers must wear a safety belt in both the front and back seats. All children under the age of five must be properly restrained by an approved child restraint when travelling in cars or vans. These can be ordered additionally when renting your car.
