Faro is the main town in the Algarve, and its airport is the gateway for tourists flying in and out of the region. There is just one terminal, and as the Algarve is a very popular destination, the airport can get very busy. But if you need help, you can go to the information service desk, which is easy to find at the meeting point in the terminal building. A lost property office can also be found here.

There are various places to eat and drink, whether you'd just like a cup of coffee before setting off from the airport or a meal before your flight. And of course there is a good selection of duty-free and tax-paid shops.

There are no hotels at the airport itself. The closest one is the Ibis Faro which is only 2km away, the Hotel Faro and the Monaco are also quite nearby, and the centre of Faro, where there is a wide range of accommodation, is only about 6km from the airport.

Facilities and Parking

Branches of banks, and ATMs, can be found in both the Arrivals and Departures areas, and there is a post office and Bureau de Change in Arrivals.

There are also several travel agencies, and if you're here for business you can take advantage of the excellent conference facilities which are available for hire.


There is good provision for passengers needed wheelchairs or assistance, with lifts and disabled toilets throughout the airport. There are also car park spaces reserved for disabled passengers, in the car park opposite the terminal building.

For short-term parking you can go to car park P1 in Departures or P3 in Arrivals. Behind these you can find car park P2, which is for long-term parking.
Car park P1 is short-term parking located in the Departures area and P3 in the Arrivals area. There is a separate car park for hire cars.

Things to see in Faro

The airport is close to the centre of Faro, so you can easily go to explore its history and charming streets. But you may want to go further afield and explore all the wonders that the Algarve has to offer. It is a beautiful destination, offering superb sandy beaches and an attractive coastline, and the area is particularly renowned for its warm and sunny weather. Golf courses abound, and Vilamoura has an upmarket marina as well as three championship courses.

There are lots of interesting towns to visit, such as Silves (including a 12th century Moorish Castle), and Lagos with its wonderful beach and marina. There are many historical churches, monuments, buildings and museums, including the lighthouse at Cape St Vincent which was thought to be the end of the world before America was discovered.
