Lisbon City Guide

Lisbon, the medieval capital city of Portugal, lies on the country's Atlantic coast sheltered by the hills around the Tagus River. It is a charming place, full of traditional Portuguese architecture. It is lively with a modern feel that attracts tourists from all over the world. In fact it is one of the most popular ‘city break holiday' destinations in Europe. Lisbon's history is one of trade and commerce. Its attractive position, nestling between the famous seven hills on the edge of the River Tagus has drawn merchant traders and settlers since time out of mind. This elegant city has many wide tree lined boulevards along which stand some handsome buildings in an Art Nouveau style. The overall colour of Lisbon is a cool cream and pastel texture with extra colour coming from the frequent mosaic pavements. Lisbon has an efficient public transport system. The subway runs between 6:30 am to1:00 am daily and is by far the simplest way to sightsee in the city.
