Built in 1991 and designed by Sir Norman Foster, Stansted is now the fourth busiest airport in the UK. London's fastest growing airport has won high praise for its spacious and people-friendly terminal.

Facilities at Stansted Airport

Stansted has a single terminal, whose glass and steel construction give a light and spacious feel. It houses both arrivals and departures
Inside the terminal, catering and retail facilities are conveniently located and there is a shared lounge departure lounge for both international and domestic passengers once they have cleared security and passport checks.

There is a wide variety of restaurants, cafes and bars at the airport. You can choose between a quick snack and a coffee or a more substantial meal. Children are welcome in all the catering outlets and in many cases children's menus are available. The price of all food and drink sold in BAA airports is matched with the UK high street.

There are a large number and wide range of shops for you to browse whilst waiting for your flight. You would be able to replace almost anything that you may have forgotten and stock up on duty free goods. As with many airports, the hotels at the airport are fairly standard. If your timetable allows then booking into a central London hotel might be more pleasurable.

Stansted Airport Parking Facilities

The Short Stay parking area is directly in front of the terminal building. Access to the terminal is by subway then ramp, lift/elevator or escalator. It can get very busy at times so leave plenty of time to find a space. The Mid Stay car park combines shorter access times than Long Stay at daily rates cheaper than Short Stay. A free transfer shuttle connects with the terminal. Journey time 5 minutes.The Long Stay car park is near the airport vehicle entrance. It is not only long stay but is a long way from the terminal and you should allow up to 15 minutes for the free bus transfer to the terminal.
It is a good idea to note the section and bus stop on the back of your ticket, as it's easy to lose your car when you return.

Disabled Parking
Stansted is friendly to people with disabilities. There are dedicated bays in both car parks for disabled badge holders: In the Short Stay they are near the terminal entrances, in the Long Stay they are close to the transfer bus pick-up points. Information phones are located in the car parks and airport buses are fitted with wheelchair lifts and tracking.
