About Hawaii

One of the most beautiful places on earth, Hawaii consists of 137 islands, all with their own beauty and attractions. There are wonderful beaches, waterfalls, rainforest, macadamia orchards, coffee plantations and volcanoes, plus surfing, scuba diving, sailing, kayaking, hiking and game fishing. The climate is idyllic, wildlife varied and fascinating, and the culture interesting and welcoming.

Aloha kâua!' means 'May there be friendship between us!', and you can be assured of a warm welcome. You'll soon be wearing a 'lei', the gorgeous and traditional flower necklace, and will relax into the warmth of the sunshine and the people.

The largest island is Oahu, home to Honolulu airport, the famous and wonderful Waikiki beach, the Byodo-In Buddist temple and the Arizona Memorial Museum at Pearl Harbour. Puu o Mahuka Melau lies on a high cliff and is a sacred spot for Hawaiians - they leave offerings of fruit and flowers on the altar. See the flamboyant architecture of the Italian Renaissance Iolani Palace, and learn about the cultures of Pacific Rim countries at the Polynesian Cultural Centre. Nightlife is great, and daytimes can also be spent learning to surf or shopping.

For a truly rejuvenating holiday, head to Maui, home to the beach centres of Kihei, Wailea and Kaanapali. Play tennis, or golf on one of the fifteen championship courses. Relax at a luxury spa, and dine in one of the excellent restaurants. Visit the Maui Ocean Centre to learn about unique marine life found only in Hawaii, then go snorkelling in the clear waters to see what you can find for yourself. Haleaka National Park is home to the world's largest dormant volcano, Haleakala.
